This blog will be my outlet for baseball. Baseball is great to just enjoy. Go to the game. Buy a program. Scream "LEWWWWWW" when Jason Tyner comes up, if you are a Twins fan, as I am (most Twins fans can't tell the difference). Keep score. Smell the smells. See the sights.
At some point, that was no longer enough for me. I started to learn more about the game. I still enjoy the simple things about baseball; however, I enjoy those things when I play not when I watch professional baseball. What makes major league baseball interesting to me--in part--is the analysis.
Baseball is a game to be analyzed. There are an endless supply of numbers that can be used to better understand performance. There are numerous performances to be critiqued. Unlike other professional sports, it is a game of individual performances. Hitters get no help from their teammates at the plate. Pitchers rely on defense, but ultimately those pitchers who miss lots of bats are most successful. We add up all those individual performances and see the results as a team. Understanding individual efforts in baseball allows you to understand why teams and players succeed.
